Plentiful Yields, Priceless Losses
CHALLENGE The project was developed as an entry for a Vancouver Art Gallery competition exploring the environmental impact of industrial farming. The challenge was translating a complex global issue into a clear visual system that could communicate urgency without relying on cliché environmental messaging. APPROACH I initially explored a more direct, confrontational direction using distorted imagery of food and livestock to highlight the darker side of industrial agriculture. Midway through the project, I had to merge my concept with another designer’s work, which forced a rethink of the direction. From there, the focus shifted toward a collision between industrial and organic systems. With a tight timeline and no possibility of a photoshoot, I used AI as a tool to generate imagery imagining a future where food is fully designed and manufactured, stripping away any connection to its natural origins. OUTCOME The final system presents familiar food forms reimagined as sterile, commercial objects, creating a subtle dystopia that questions how far industrial food production can be pushed before it loses its relationship to anything natural.
